Frequently asked questions
A hosted service that answers requests for a domain or URL with a redirect to a new address, so you don't run a web server just to forward traffic. You point the domain's DNS to the service once; it serves the redirects and their HTTPS certificates.
Usually, yes. Registrars call it URL or domain forwarding, and it is a 301 or 302 redirect underneath. What differs is HTTPS, path handling and how many domains you can manage in one place.
No. The domain stays with your registrar and your DNS stays where it is. You add a CNAME or A record for the root and www, or let Connect DNS do it automatically at Cloudflare. Your email records are not touched.
Use a 301 when the move is permanent: browsers remember it and search engines pass the old URL's ranking signals to the new one. Use a 302 while the move is temporary or you are testing. 307 and 308 work like 302 and 301 but keep the request method, which matters for forms and APIs. All four are on every plan.
Yes. Import a CSV and review what it adds, updates and leaves alone before anything is saved, or create a website migration that keeps the path for unchanged pages and maps the rest. You can also update or delete redirects in bulk from the dashboard, the REST API or the MCP server.
Each request is answered at the nearest of 130 global PoPs, so the redirect adds very little to the visit. You can measure it yourself with the Redirect Speed Test, which times only the redirect response from Washington, D.C., Frankfurt and Tokyo.
Yes. The REST API and the MCP server are on every plan, so you can create, update and delete redirects from your own code or an AI agent, within the same plan limits as the dashboard.
